How does Talkspace handle emergencies? What if I am in crisis?

Like face-to-face therapists, Talkspace therapists are individually licensed and follow clinical and legal protocols if a person is at risk of harming themselves or others. They are also available at flexible hours per their posted availability calendars which all clients can access.

While Talkspace is not a crisis hotline and shouldn't be looked to for emergency or immediate support, we want you to get the help that you need. There are some great free resources available for those who are not able to afford ongoing services — even one that uses text messaging.

Anyone requiring immediate assistance or in a life-threatening situation is encouraged to:

  • Call 911 or the local emergency/authorities number
  • Call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-8255)
  • Call the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (988)
  • Text START to the 24/7 Crisis Text Line (741741) for text messaging support
  • Or check out more resources in your here: Emergency Resources

If you are in a life threatening situation, contemplating suicide, or thinking of hurting yourself or someone else, immediately call the 24-hr 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by dialing '988' on your phone. Multiple language options are available. The counselors there can talk to you about ways to resolve the situation that has made you think about suicide and can connect you with resources to help you.

Regardless of which option you choose, please reach out to someone for support.
