How Long are Live Sessions and Can I Choose a Different Session Length?

The length of time you can connect with your provider in real-time depends on both your Talkspace plan and how you pay for your services—either out-of-pocket or through coverage. Below, we’ve outlined how session duration works based on these factors.

Paying out-of-pocket/no coverage
If you’re paying for Talkspace services entirely out-of-pocket and not through benefits under coverage, the length of your live sessions will depend on the Talkspace service and plan you're signed up for:
  • For therapy subscriptions with live sessions included, each live session will be 30 minutes, and you’ll have the option to book back-to-back sessions for a longer meeting time if your provider is available.
  • For psychiatry plans, the initial evaluation session can be up to one hour. Any follow-up psychiatry sessions are up to 30 min.
Coverage from U.S. health insurance, medicare, EAP, employer, or others
If you’re using health insurance, Medicare, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), employer benefits, or other sponsored benefits for Talkspace services, the duration of your live sessions will be determined by your benefits provider. Talkspace is unable to adjust it based on individual preferences.

Booking back-to-back sessions:

  • If you’re using health insurance or EAP benefits, you won't be able to schedule back-to-back sessions.
  • If you’re using other benefits and have sufficient live session credits, you may be able to schedule consecutive sessions if your provider has availability. Ask your provider if this option could work for you both.
