• What’s the difference between therapy and psychiatry?

Therapy is an umbrella term that refers to “talk therapy” (also known as psychotherapy).

You may choose to do just therapy, just psychiatry, or both with Talkspace.

If you’re unsure about where to start, sign up for therapy, and your therapist can offer guidance to inform your decision.

Therapists are supportive listeners. They will work with you to understand personal challenges and devise a plan for you to feel better.

    • Therapists are not able to prescribe medication.
    • They include psychologists, social workers, marriage and family therapists, and counselors.

Psychiatry is a medical specialty that uses medication to treat mental health conditions.

Psychiatrists and nurse practitioners are licensed medical providers who specialize in mental health and medication management.

Typically, psychiatrists don’t offer talk therapy but work with therapists to provide comprehensive care.

  • Can I receive therapy services from my prescriber?
