Why Was My Provider Changed?

At Talkspace, our goal is for you to work with the same provider throughout your care, so you can build a strong and lasting relationship. However, there are times when you may be asked to switch providers or consider a new match.

Here are some common reasons why this might happen:

  • Licensing Requirements & Location Changes

Providers are licensed to practice in specific states. If you move to a new state, spend significant time in another location, or if your provider’s license expires, we may need to match you with a provider who is licensed in your state. This ensures you receive care that meets legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Insurance or Coverage Changes

Updates to your health plan, sponsor, or Employee Assistance Program (EAP) may affect which providers are available to you. If your insurance changes or your current provider is no longer covered, we’ll help you find a provider who is included in your updated benefits.

  • Service Incompatibility

If you need a different type of service (for example, switching from therapy to psychiatry, or starting couples therapy), your current provider may not offer that service. You’ll be matched with a provider who offers the care you’re seeking.

  • Room Inactivity

If you have been inactive on the platform for more than 14 days, you may be prompted to match with a new provider when you reactivate your room.

  • Provider Availability

Sometimes, your provider may become unavailable due to changes in their schedule, caseload, or personal circumstances.

If you need help finding a new provider, you can change providers directly within your account or refer to this guide: Find a Provider Using the Talkspace Directory.
