How Teens Can Sign Up for Talkspace Using Benefits

Teens (ages 13–17) can use Talkspace through a parent or guardian’s insurance plan, an EAP benefit, or school/city programs that offer therapy at a reduced rate or at no cost. This article explains how to sign up based on your benefit type.

How to Sign Up

Free Programs (School or City-Sponsored)

Some schools and cities offer Talkspace at no cost to teens (for example: NYC Teenspace, Baltimore County Public Schools, City of Seattle).

To sign up:

  1. Open talkspace.com/online-therapy/teens.
  2. Select Get started.
  3. Choose Teen Therapy for your desired service.
  4. When asked if your school or city offers free Talkspace, select Yes.
  5. Indicate whether you’re signing up as the teen or as a parent/guardian helping the teen.
  6. Follow the prompts to check your eligibility and create an account.
Parent/Guardian’s Health Insurance Plan

If you're a teen dependent on a parent or guardian’s insurance plan, follow these steps to sign up:

  1. Open talkspace.com/online-therapy/teens.
  2. Select Get started.
  3. Choose Teen Therapy for your desired service.
  4. Select I’ll use a different form of coverage.
  5. Select Yes, let’s check my coverage.
  6. Enter your information such as your name and date of birth (do not enter your parent/guardian's information).
  7. Enter the State and Member/Subscriber ID as shown on your insurance card.
    • Note: If the health plan doesn’t issue separate insurance cards for dependents, you can enter the primary subscriber’s member ID.
  8. Follow the remaining steps to finish creating your account, making sure to sign up using your own email address.
Parent/Guardian’s EAP (Employee Assistance Program)

If your parent or guardian has access to Talkspace through an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), you may be eligible as a dependent or household member.

To sign up:

  1. Open the Talkspace link provided by the EAP.
    • If you don't have this link, ask your parent/guardian to contact their EAP provider.
  2. Select Get started.
  3. Enter your information such as your name, date of birth, and email address (do not enter your parent/guardian's information).
  4. Under Let us know who you are, select Child.
  5. When prompted, confirm your eligibility by entering the correct organization name, keyword, or phrase.
  6. If asked to choose a service, select Teen Therapy.
  7. Follow the remaining steps to finish creating an account.
