As a teenager, a lot of changes are happening at once—physically, hormonally, and developmentally. Prioritizing your mental health is just as important as grades, accomplishments, or college admissions. With Talkspace, if you're between 13 and 17 years old, you can connect with an online counselor or therapist to work through various challenges.
For parents and guardians, Talkspace is here to guide you through the process of supporting your teen's mental health.
A Teen's Guide to Therapy
- Go to talkspace.com.
- Click Get Started.
- Select Teen Therapy when asked what kind of service you're looking for.
If you live in NYC, be sure to scroll down to the NYC TeenSpace Program section below—you may be eligible for free therapy!
IMPORTANT: Your account should be created using your personal info—like your name, email, and date of birth—even if you're using a parent or guardian’s insurance or benefits. You’ll be able to enter their benefits information during sign-up when asked.
Depending on where you live, you might need a parent or legal guardian's permission to speak with a therapist. To check your state's rules, visit Consent Exemptions for Minor Clients of Talkspace. Once you're signed up, your conversations with your provider are private. They'll always ask your permission before talking with your parent or guardian.
A Parent's Guide to Therapy
If you have any questions about consent, contact privacy@talkspace.com for guidance.
- From talkspace.com/online-therapy/teens, click "I'm a guardian of a teen".
- Enter your teen's age and zip code.
- Provide your consent for them to get therapy.
- Share the invitation link with your teen.
Tip: Since you've provided eligibility and consent information, your teen should have everything they need to complete signing up! Feel free to stick around or sit with them in case they need support or have any questions.
Depending on your state's requirements concerning access to your teen's medical records, you may have the right to request a copy of your teen's medical records. For details, see the "Obtaining Medical Records or Treatment Summary" section in the same article.
NOTE: At this time, our teen therapy sessions are not designed to support family therapy sessions.
