Who can sign up?
Talkspace Couples Therapy is designed for any two individuals aged 18 or older who want to work on their relationship. This can include spouses, romantic partners, a parent and child, or even two friends.
At this time, Talkspace doesn't support family therapy involving more than two people.
How to get started?
To start Couples Therapy, the person who has Talkspace Couples Therapy coverage or is paying for the service should sign up first. This individual will be the primary participant and invite the other person to join as the secondary participant.
If you’re paying out-of-pocket, you can review our pricing details here: Talkspace Services + Out-of-Pocket Pricing.

If you’re already a Talkspace member and want to begin Couples Therapy, you can add it as a new service to your account. Keep in mind that we’re not able to match you with the same provider for both individual and couples therapy. This policy helps maintain clear roles and ensures each type of therapy remains focused and unbiased.
NOTE: Both individuals will need their own Talkspace accounts. This allows each person to join sessions from different locations and ensures we have clear, direct consent from both participants. Without this consent, our providers are unable to offer services. Only one person (the primary participant) needs to apply coverage or make payment for the sessions. The invited participant can create an account using the invitation link sent by the primary participant.
To learn more about the roles of primary and secondary participants, visit: What are the Differences Between Primary and Secondary Couples Account Holders?
Do both participants have to be in the same location?
No, participants in Couples Therapy at Talkspace don’t need to be in the same location. Each participant has their own account and can join sessions from different locations and devices. For details on joining a scheduled live session, whether or not you are in the same place, please visit: How to Join and Attend a Live Session.
If you and the other participant are located in different states, the Talkspace provider needs to be licensed in both states to offer therapy. If the provider is only licensed in one state, they should check with both state licensing boards to confirm whether they can provide therapy across state lines. Because licensing rules can vary, after matching with a provider, you should ask them to confirm with their licensing board whether they are able to work with both of you.
