Can I Use Talkspace While Traveling or Living Outside of the US?

You've come to the right article if you're curious about using Talkspace beyond the borders of the United States! Find out more details below.

Can I use Talkspace if I reside outside of the US?

Certainly! Talkspace can be accessed outside the US as long as you have an internet connection and you're not in a country that blocks VoIP services.

Please be aware that our prices are listed in USD ($) or GBP (£), defaulting to USD if your country currency is not GBP.

It's also worth noting that the majority of our providers operate within US time zones.

How does traveling affect my Talkspace access?

Access to your Talkspace services while traveling depends on both your destination and how you're accessing the service (through coverage or by paying out-of-pocket). Knowing this can help you keep your care on track and avoid any payment or claims issues.

  • Destination Considerations for All Members

If you're traveling to a country on the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)-blocking list, your ability to access Talkspace may be restricted, regardless of how you access the service. This is because our platform relies on a secure internet connection for messaging and live sessions.

  • Talkspace Access Based on Your Coverage

If you use health insurance or Employee Assistance Program (EAP) coverage for Talkspace, you can’t have sessions while traveling at this time. Please reschedule any sessions before your trip and avoid scheduling new ones during your travel. You can continue once you’re back.

If you use other coverage or pay out-of-pocket, you can usually keep using Talkspace while traveling, as long as your destination doesn't block VoIP and your provider is allowed to continue working with you. Before traveling, confirm this with your provider. If they can’t work with you while you’re away, you can discuss alternatives or switch to a provider licensed in your destination.

Keep in mind that the time zone displayed when scheduling a session aligns with your device's time zone, but in-room notifications, reminders, and message timestamps are based on the time zone you were in when you initially created the account.

If you pay out-of-pocket and expect to lose access while abroad, you may pause your subscription by visiting: How Do I Pause My Out-Of-Pocket Subscription/Plan?

NOTE: Due to state licensing regulations, your provider needs to be licensed in the state where you’re located to offer services. If you plan to stay in another state for an extended period, you’ll need to work with a provider who is licensed in that state. If you travel frequently across state lines, Talkspace may not be the best option for consistent therapy at this time.
