Therapy |
---|
What is therapy? At Talkspace, therapy is used as an umbrella term and refers to talk therapy, which is also known as psychotherapy. Under this plan, you'll work with a therapist to understand your personal goals and come up with a plan to help you start feeling better.
Therapists include psychologists, social workers, marriage and family therapists, and counselors; they're not able to prescribe medication. For this, Talkspace gives you the option to switch to psychiatry or sign up for psychiatry in addition to therapy, if desired.
Even if you don't have benefits that cover mental health services, Talkspace is still more affordable than most in-person therapy. The average cost of a traditional in-person therapy session is $175 - $500 per session — a big departure from our plans!
If you choose to pay out-of-pocket, all of Talkspace's therapy plans are recurring subscriptions— billed automatically on either a monthly, quarterly, or biannual basis— with frequency chosen by you when you sign up. You may save an additional 10-20% if you choose to be billed quarterly or biannually. For details on different payment and coverage options that might be available to you, visit Accepted Forms of Payment/Coverage.

Psychiatry |
---|
What is psychiatry? Psychiatry is a medical specialty that uses medication to help treat mental health conditions. You and your psychiatrist will talk about the best treatment plan for your needs—which may or may not involve medication.
The psychiatry network consists of psychiatrists and nurse practitioners who are licensed medical providers specializing in mental health and medication management.
While Talkspace allows for seamless collaboration between therapy and psychiatry to provide comprehensive care, the two services are separate and prescribers do not offer talk therapy as part of their psychiatry treatment. You can, however, work with a prescriber in addition to maintaining your therapy subscription at Talkspace.
For additional information, please take a look at Talkspace.com/Psychiatry for more.
Payment for Talkspace Psychiatry is session-based, meaning you only pay for the sessions you use. Here's how our psychiatry pricing is structured:
Single Session Pricing | Discounted Bundle Pricing | |
Initial Evaluation: $299 USD Follow up session: $175 USD per session |
For new members Initial Evaluation + 1 follow up session: $435 USD Initial Evaluation + 3 follow up session: $725 USD For members who have completed their initial evaluation session 3 follow up sessions: $475 USD 6 follow up sessions: $890 USD 9 follow up sessions: $1,260 USD |
What is covered in the initial psychiatry evaluation session? During the initial evaluation session, your prescriber will conduct a psychiatric evaluation. They'll ask you a series of questions to diagnose your condition and determine whether medication is necessary. If medication is deemed beneficial and is not a controlled substance, they'll be able to send the prescription to your chosen pharmacy. Additionally, they'll address any inquiries you may have and establish the cadence for follow-up sessions. For more information about the initial evaluation session, visit What is a Psych Evaluation.
NOTE: An initial evaluation session is required before scheduling follow up sessions.
Clients can book appointments within 2 days of sign-up and up to 3 months in advance.
An alphabetical listing of which are considered 'controlled substances' can be found within this article on the United States Drug Enforcement Administration website.
Keep in mind that the decision to prescribe medication and subsequent refills is based on the clinical discretion of the provider. For additional information, please take a look at https://www.talkspace.com/psychiatry for more.

What is couples therapy? With Talkspace couples counseling, you and your partner can sign into a shared therapy room whenever is convenient for both of you and discuss your experiences with your provider. You're able and welcome to maintain an individual, private talk therapy subscription in addition to your couples room at Talkspace.
The flexibility of having Talkspace on your mobile device or desktop means you won’t have to find time for both of you to visit a provider’s office. It’s easier than waiting a week to remember what to talk about, and you won’t have to rearrange your lives or hire a babysitter!
Out of pocket Couples therapy includes live sessions and unlimited messaging with your provider, starting at $436 USD per month.
Additional live sessions can be purchased for $65 USD per session should you use all sessions prior to your next billing renewal date.
Please note, due to different restrictions and requirements in different states, your Talkspace provider will provide the final determination on whether they can work with individuals in separate states.
