An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a workplace benefit that supports employees with personal issues affecting their work and well-being. EAPs offer free, confidential counseling separate from standard health insurance, allowing employees to access therapy without using regular health coverage. If your employer covers Talkspace through an EAP, the benefits available to you may include:
- Individual therapy
- Couples therapy
NOTE: EAP benefits for Talkspace are only available to individuals residing within the United States. If you live outside of the US, you are not eligible to use EAP benefits for Talkspace services. Please check with your EAP provider for alternative options if you are located internationally.
With an EAP benefit, you'll receive a set number of prepaid credits to access Talkspace therapy sessions. These sessions are structured and solution-focused, and if needed, referrals may be provided for longer-term care.
Depending on your benefits, credits can be used towards messaging or live sessions. Please note, messaging sessions remain open for 7 days after initiation or until your Talkspace therapy provider attests to its completion. It depends on how your specific Employee Assistance Program (EAP) plan works.
Some EAP plans allow more than one service at the same time, while others only allow one active service under the same EAP benefit.
To check what’s available under your plan, contact your EAP provider and ask if you’re eligible for both individual therapy and couples therapy at the same time. Your EAP provider can confirm:
- Whether multiple services are allowed at the same time
- If separate approvals or authorizations are required
If multiple services are approved under your EAP benefit, your EAP provider will coordinate with Talkspace to help set up the additional service.
If multiple services are not approved under the same EAP benefit, you can either:
- Complete or end one service before starting another (or switch between individual and couples therapy), or
- Add another Talkspace service at any time using a different payment method.
If your EAP benefits have expired or you've used all of your prepaid sessions, we recommend reaching out to your benefits provider to see if you qualify for additional sessions or extended benefits. Review our guide on How Do I Get More Sessions Using My Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Benefits?
If you don't have authorization for additional EAP sessions, you can continue Talkspace services using a different form of coverage or payment method. Visit Forms of Payment and Coverage Accepted by Talkspace to understand all the ways you can pay for Talkspace.
