Using Health Insurance Benefits for Talkspace

Talkspace accepts health insurance from a wide range of insurers, including Cigna, Optum, Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and many others, offering online therapy as a behavioral health benefit. Most members pay only a copay of $30 or less when using their insurance.

If your health insurance covers Talkspace, your benefits may include:

  • Individual therapy
  • Couples therapy
  • Psychiatry

Note: Talkspace currently does not accept Medicaid or support international health insurance plans. If you’re looking for information about Medicare, start with this guide: Understanding Medicare at Talkspace

Signing up for Talkspace with insurance
To use and sign up with your health insurance for Talkspace:
  1. Check if Talkspace is in-network with your health insurance

Contact your health plan using the number on the back of your insurance card and confirm the following:

    • Your eligibility for Talkspace services. Tip: Ask your provider what your coverage is for Telehealth Services, and specifically for Talkspace.
    • The service(s) you're eligible to receive (e.g., Individual therapy, Couples therapy, Psychiatry).
    • Whether your benefits extend to your dependent(s) and/or family members.
    • Your cost-share or member responsibility like copay, deductible, or out of pocket costs, for Talkspace services provided.

Note: If you have a valid insurance card, try signing up with the steps below and our platform will verify your coverage for Talkspace. For more detailed information on what's covered under your health plan, we recommend contacting your benefits provider.

  2. Sign up for Talkspace

If you already have a Talkspace account, add your insurance benefits by updating your coverage in an existing room, or adding a new service.

After confirming coverage, sign up for an account on our homepage.

    • Click on Get Started for the service you'd like.
    • Select the option to pay using insurance.
    • Enter your insurance card information when prompted.
    • Complete the rest of the prompts to finish creating your account.

If you experience any issues with signing up, please review the solutions in our troubleshooting guide: Why can't I sign up?

Take a moment to verify the options displayed:

If you’re brought to a screen displaying pricing for Talkspace’s out-of-pocket subscription, your insurance may not be in-network with Talkspace and you’re being directed to pay out-of-pocket. Please contact your insurance provider for confirmation.

If you receive the "We couldn’t verify your coverage for Talkspace" screen and believe Talkspace is in-network, select "I'm sure my plan covers Talkspace." You'll be prompted to share your insurance and photo IDs for manual verification. We'll email you the next steps, so make sure emails from Talkspace aren't blocked.

  3. Confirm if your coverage is applied correctly

How do I continue my care if my insurance is changing or expiring?
There are several ways to continue your care in the event your insurance has changed or expired.
  • Check if Talkspace is in-network with your new provider if you've switched health plans or insurance policies.
  • We accept many major insurers and offer various payment options, including employer benefits and out-of-pocket plans. For more details, see our article: Accepted Forms of Payment/Coverage.
  • If your insurance is expiring, you'll receive a prompt in your Talkspace room to update your information. At that time, you can add your new insurance details, or switch to using another benefit or paying out-of-pocket.
  • If your insurance is changing or has already expired, update your coverage with the steps in our guide: How do I apply/update my coverage.
